thankful for

I am thankful for my family and friends, for my good health and a roof over my head. I am most thankful though, for my husband. I love him and appreciate him every day, and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him, wherever that may be.

constitution day, observed

The University of Washington observes Constitution Day on November 1, since school is not in session on September 17th.  I participated today in the read aloud event at Suzallo Library, getting to read three times instead of the once I was expecting.  My lines were....

[Article 1, Section 6]

No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been encreased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.


The Preamble to The Bill of Rights

Congress of the United States
begun and held at the City of New-York, on
Wednesday the fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.

The Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution.


[Amendment XX]

Section 5.
Sections 1 and 2 shall take effect on the 15th day of October following the ratification of this article.

Section 6.
This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission.
